The University of Ibadan has received N201 million in institutional fees from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), designated for the payment of fees for students who applied for the loan. This was disclosed in a circular issued by the university’s Registrar, G.O. Salisu, dated August 9, 2024, and addressed to the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs.
The circular outlined that the funds are intended to cover the fees of 1,370 students for the 2023/2024 academic session. Additionally, it noted that students who had already paid their fees prior to receiving the loan are now eligible to apply for a refund.
“The Nigerian Education Loan Fund has remitted the sum of N201 million to the university account for the 2023/2024 academic session. This amount is to cover the fees of 1,370 students of our university who applied for the NELFUND loan,” the circular stated. It further explained that the Bursary Department is currently processing the funds to issue smart receipts to the concerned students.
Students who are beneficiaries of the NELFUND loan and have already paid their session fees are instructed to apply for a refund. To do so, they must submit an application through the Dean of Students to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, including their account details and a photocopy of the original payment receipt.
The NELFUND student loan scheme is a key initiative under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, aimed at improving access to education by providing financial support to students across the country.
