Unizik Business School in Awka has commenced its sixth hybrid International Conference with an opening ceremony held at the ASUU Secretariat of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
The ongoing conference, spanning three days, revolves around the theme “Climate and Environmental Challenges: Advancing The Frontiers of Disruptive Innovations in Africa”.
Participants include students, university staff, and virtual attendees from both within and outside Nigeria.
Inaugurating the event, the Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Professor Charles Esimone, emphasized the theme’s significance in addressing global concerns about sustainable development and the urgent need to address environmental exploitation.
Keynote Speaker, Professor Mohamed Issami from Morocco, highlighted the impact of climate change on developing nations, discussed various funding avenues for climate mitigation, and showcased Morocco’s success in renewable energy thanks to climate funds.
Chairman of the occasion, Professor Frederick Odibo, underscored the dire consequences of climate change on African societies, urging collaborative efforts between communities, governments, and businesses to innovate and protect the environment.
Professor Chinedu Onyeizugbe, Director of Unizik Business School, emphasized the conference’s role in fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and advancing knowledge.
Addressing the challenges and achievements of the Business School, Professor Onyeizugbe reaffirmed their commitment to offering solutions to global challenges through business education.
Lead Paper Presenter, Professor Okay Ikechukwu, drew attention to the plight of sinking cities worldwide, including Lagos, emphasizing the necessity for innovation to address real-world issues.
Professor Valerie Nnodu advocated for a paradigm shift in treating the environment as a business concern, calling for penalties for actions that harm the environment.
The conference’s opening ceremony also featured the presentation of awards to deserving individuals, adding a touch of grandeur to the event.
