Vice President Kamala Harris Outlines Agenda and Responds to Key Issues in First In-Depth Interview

In her first detailed media interview since becoming the Democratic nominee for president, Vice President Kamala Harris spoke with CNN’s Dana Bash about her plans for her first day in office and addressed several pressing issues.

Harris emphasized her commitment to advancing what she calls an “opportunity economy,” focusing on reducing the cost of everyday goods and investing in small businesses and families. Notably, she proposed extending the child tax credit to $6,000 for families with newborns to help cover essential expenses.

On the topic of affordable housing, Harris reiterated her plan to increase the availability of housing across the country. She also defended her stance on climate change and border security, highlighting that her core values have remained consistent since her previous presidential campaign.

Regarding Israel and its ongoing conflict with Hamas, Harris affirmed her unwavering support for Israel’s right to defend itself but also expressed concern about the high civilian toll in Gaza. She stressed the need for a ceasefire and supports a two-state solution to resolve the conflict.

Harris took aim at former President Donald Trump for blocking bipartisan efforts to enhance border security during his administration. She vowed to sign a similar bill if it reaches her desk and clarified her position on border enforcement, stating that while she supports consequences for illegal crossings, she no longer backs the idea of “decriminalizing” the border.

In a nod to bipartisanship, Harris pledged to include at least one Republican in her Cabinet if elected, aiming to incorporate diverse perspectives in her administration.

When asked about Trump’s recent comments questioning her ethnic background, Harris dismissed the remarks as a “tired” and racially motivated attack, choosing not to engage further.

Harris’s interview underscored her commitment to tackling key issues while maintaining her focus on her campaign’s core values and goals.
