Vice President Shettima Cancels US Trip, Minister Tuggar to Represent Nigeria at Business Summit

The Vice President of Nigeria, Kashim Shettima, has called off his planned trip to the United States of America and returned to Nigeria abruptly. Shettima was initially scheduled to participate in the 2024 US-Africa Business Summit held in Dallas, Texas.

According to a statement issued by the president’s aide on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha, it was disclosed that due to unforeseen circumstances, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, would now represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the summit in Dallas, Texas.

Nkwocha elaborated that Shettima’s change in plans was necessitated by a technical fault with his aircraft, prompting him to alter his travel itinerary on the advice of the Presidential Air Fleet. Despite the setback, the Vice President is committed to fulfilling his other national duties.

Highlighting the significance of the US-Africa Business Summit, the statement emphasized that the event, slated to take place at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, aims to convene political and business leaders from Africa, the United States, and other regions. It is designed to facilitate high-level dialogues, networking sessions, and plenary discussions aimed at fostering partnerships and economic cooperation between the participating countries and regions.
