The Kingdom of Netherlands consular general to Nigeria, Dr. Natalie Beinisch and her team comprising, Mr. Opeyemi Oriniowo and Mr. Obaloluwa Dairo have visited the honourable Commissioner for Environment in Anambra state, Engr. Dr Felix Odiegwu at his office, Jerome Udorji Secretariat in Awka, yesterday April 10, 2025.
According to Dr Beinisch, the purpose of the visit was to support and promote management of waste, recycling of plastic, waste control, recovery and management policies in Anambra State.
She stated that they had actually started working on the program for two years and they were in Anambra to support the state and Nigeria to set up Nigeria Circular Economy that encouraged recycling of waste.
During the meeting, the commissioner for Environment, Engr Dr Felix Odimegwu informed the consular general that they had set up some hubs in Awka that recycles plastic wastes.
“The state actually runs a program that involves all communities through the Anambra State Waste Recyclers Association (ASWRA) that encourages people to pick up plastic anywhere and sell to make money”, he said.
After the meeting, the Commissioner and his guests visited four hubs in Awka:
The Green Republic Recycling Hub, Amansea
Awka Dump Site, Awka
Intentional Recycling Hub, Awka
Carbon African Recycling Hub, Enugu-Agidi.
In attendance were; Dr. Emma Ezenwaji, Chairman, ASWAMA BOARD, Hon. Mike Ozoemena, MD/CEO, ASWAMA, Amb. Philip Obuezi, Founder SWEEP, Prince Chris Azor, ASWAMA BOARD MEMBER, Dr. Ijeoma Onyenwelum HOD ECOLOGY among others.
