The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, has explained the reasons behind his role in the removal of Prince Uche Secondus as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Wike made the revelation during a Thanksgiving service organized by PDP stakeholders in Ahoada East and Ahoada West, in the Ukpata community, Ekpeye Kingdom, on Thursday.
Wike claimed that he worked to remove Secondus because the former PDP chairman had hatched a plot to make Wike’s cousin, Tele Ikuru, the governor of Rivers State, rather than the elected Governor Siminalayi Fubara. According to Wike, Secondus’ actions threatened the party’s unity and the political future of Rivers State, prompting him to take decisive action.
### Wike Responds to Celestine Omehia’s Criticism
In the same speech, Wike took aim at Celestine Omehia, a former Rivers governor, who had criticized his contributions to the state. Wike referred to Omehia as an “imbecile” for questioning his achievements, stating that as FCT Minister, his role was not to bring infrastructural projects to Rivers but to serve the entire nation.
He defended his tenure as the Minister of Education, highlighting key contributions to Rivers State, such as bringing a Faculty of Law to the University of Port Harcourt, providing grants to several universities, and improving federal schools in the state.
### Political Appointments for Rivers People
Wike also emphasized that no governor had attracted more political appointments to Rivers State than he had under the current administration of President Bola Tinubu. He stated that, through his efforts and the support of President Tinubu, Rivers State had seen a significant number of political appointments, and that Rivers people had benefitted from his work.
He pointed out that despite being unable to directly bring infrastructure to the state as FCT Minister, he had been helping Rivers people and would continue to do so. Wike also questioned the integrity of some traditional rulers in Ekpeye land, accusing them of lacking moral standing.
