Mrs. Favour Igiebor, the Nigerian woman who was captured in a viral video tearing her husband’s international passport at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, has come forward to explain her actions. In a new video circulating on social media, Mrs. Igiebor addressed the incident, which occurred shortly after the couple arrived in Lagos on Saturday, revealing that her actions were the culmination of longstanding marital issues.
In her interview with Jejoja’s family on social media, Mrs. Igiebor clarified that her actions were not impulsive or irrational. She emphasized that her behavior was a response to deep-seated problems in her marriage that had been ongoing for a long time. She expressed frustration that people were quick to judge her based solely on the viral video, without understanding the context or the struggles she has been facing.
“I am the lady that had issues with my husband before we came to Nigeria. This issue has been going on for a very long time but I was just dancing to the tune till I arrived in my mother’s land Nigeria,” she said. “All those bloggers carrying this video on social media, you have to ask what happened. Don’t just look at the actions alone. I am not a mad woman who will just come and act like that. I have my reasons, I have gone through so many things.”
Mrs. Igiebor expressed disappointment that many people were quick to criticize her without knowing the full story. She hinted at significant marital challenges, including family issues and emotional pain, which she had endured silently. She also mentioned that her husband had been controlling her social media accounts, but she was now speaking out on her own behalf.
“What I did was because action speaks louder than voice, I did what I did for him to know I have been bearing it,” she explained. She further called on her husband to come forward and speak the truth about their situation, challenging him to be honest about the difficulties in their marriage.
Mrs. Igiebor’s statement has sparked further discussion online, with many debating the complexities of marital disputes and the appropriateness of her actions at the airport.
