In commemoration of the 2024 World AIDS Day, the Anambra State AIDS Control Agency (ANSACA) organized a sensitization road walk across Awka metropolis to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and promote efforts to eliminate the disease.
Speaking during the event, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, reiterated the Soludo administration’s commitment to reducing HIV prevalence in the state through initiatives such as free HIV testing centers and intensive awareness campaigns. He emphasized the government’s resolve to eradicate mother-to-child HIV transmission, a critical milestone in the fight against the disease.
The Executive Director of ANSACA, Mr. Johnbosco Ementa, noted that the weeklong celebration aims to honor lives lost to the disease while supporting those living with HIV. He urged the public to stop stigmatizing individuals with the condition and disclosed that the agency has set up free HIV screening centers at locations including the State Secretariat, Arroma Junction, UNIZIK Junction, and Eke Awka Market.
Earlier, during a courtesy visit to the Managing Director of the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), Mr. Chris Molokwu, the Commissioner for Health commended ABS for its role in public sensitization. In response, Mr. Molokwu assured continued collaboration, leveraging the media house’s diverse platforms to disseminate vital information on HIV prevention and management.
