An officer of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been killed, and another critically injured, in an attack by suspected internet fraudsters, commonly known as Yahoo boys, in Onitsha, Anambra State.
The incident occurred on Friday morning as the operatives, on a mission from the EFCC’s zonal headquarters in Enugu, attempted to apprehend the suspects.
The deceased officer, an assistant superintendent who had recently completed a promotional examination, succumbed to gunshot wounds.
Confirming the attack, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that a suspect had been apprehended, and a firearm recovered.
“Investigation into the sad incident is ongoing. The suspect is in custody, and the firearm has been recovered. Further details shall be communicated,” Ikenga said.
