Nollywood actor Yemi Ayebo, popularly known as “Yemi My Lover,” claims that chart-topping rapper Olamide has refused to answer his calls or messages for six months after using Ayebo’s stage name in a song. In a video interview shared on social media, Ayebo said he has never received compensation from any artist or content creator who invokes his moniker.
Ayebo recounted reaching out to Fuji musician Pasuma, who agreed to mediate between him and Olamide. According to Ayebo, Pasuma called Olamide on his behalf, prompting Olamide to instruct Pasuma to connect the two over the phone. Ayebo said he obtained Olamide’s number that day, yet all subsequent attempts to speak with the rapper went unanswered.
“I was thrilled when Olamide first used my name in his song,” Ayebo said. “My name is blessed by God, which is why Davido, Olamide and many others, including skit makers, have referenced it. But although Pasuma arranged for me to call him, Olamide didn’t pick up for over six months—or respond to my messages.”
Ayebo added that the high-profile mentions have boosted his own popularity, but he still expects a show of professional courtesy and, where appropriate, remuneration when his brand is leveraged in music or digital content.
