The Yobe State Family Planning Media Advocacy Team has urged stronger collaboration with traditional, religious, and community leaders to further promote safe childbirth spacing and reduce preventable maternal deaths in the state.
Marking the 2025 Safe Motherhood Day, the team emphasized the need to prioritise women’s long-term well-being and promote practices that support healthy pregnancies and childbirth. The global day, observed annually on April 11, is an initiative of the World Health Organisation focused on ensuring women’s access to comprehensive healthcare during pregnancy and childbirth.
In a statement signed by Ahmed Isah Abba on behalf of the team’s chairman, Mustapha Yusuf Musa, the group applauded the Yobe State Government and its development partners, including The Challenge Initiative (TCI), for contributing to improved maternal and child health indicators.
The team highlighted that the collaboration with national and international NGOs has led to greater acceptance of family planning, especially among rural women, thanks to the availability of health consumables, antenatal health talks, outreach activities, and sustained media advocacy.
They commended ongoing efforts across Yobe’s primary, secondary, and tertiary health systems, describing them as instrumental in boosting access to essential services such as antenatal, intrapartum, postnatal, and mental healthcare.
The advocacy team reiterated the need for increased engagement with local influencers to amplify support for safe motherhood and childbirth spacing practices that safeguard women’s health and well-being.
