The Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture in Anambra state, Dr. Foster Ihejiofor, has inaugurated the Anambra Community Young Farmers Forum (ACYFF for Agriculture), an initiative of ASATU Youth President, Comrade Ken Okoli and held yesterday at ASATU hall, government house, Awka.
In his brief remark, Dr Ihejiofor praised the youths for their proactive efforts at facilitating such a platform and keying into Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s farm to feed initiative. He therefore promised them government’s support and urged them to be focused in their chosen line of agriculture.
According to the ASATU Youth president and facilitator of the program, Comr. Ken Okoli, the establishment of Anambra Community Young Farmers Forum (ACYFF) was in line with Mr Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo’s Farm-to-Feed initiative and the First Lady’s Healthy Living With Nonye Soludo Farm project.
Comrade Okoli pointed out that ACYFF inauguration would mark a significant step towards enhancing food production in the state and empowerment of young people in agriculture.
He reaffirmed ASATU Youth’s commitment to supporting policies that drive economic growth through sustainable farming. The platform according to him would form a cooperative for members and collaborate with the Ministry of Agriculture.
Mr. Chineme Oguegbe, a business consultant, who spoke at the event, encouraged young farmers to embrace agriculture as a business to enhance profitability and market competitiveness.
Hon. Casmir Orie is the State Coordinator while Comrade Enebeli Idowu and Comrade Ejim Ucheagwu are the Chairman and Secretary of the Advisory Council of ACYFF.
Youths drawn from all the communities in the state, Hon. Emeka Iloghalu, MD FABDA, Mr Jerry Ngene and community youth leaders graced the occasion.
