Hon Abdul Malik Zubairu, a federal lawmaker representing the Maru/Bungudu Federal Constituency in Zamfara State, has paid N10.5 million in bride price for 105 orphans who lost their parents to bandit attacks. Each groom received N100,000, while each bride was given N50,000 to start a business as they begin their matrimonial lives.
The grand event took place on Saturday in Bungudu town, drawing prominent personalities and thousands of spectators. In addition to the bride price, Zubairu provided beds and bedding materials for the newlyweds.
Speaking at the ceremony, Hon Zubairu acknowledged the hardships faced by the orphans and expressed his commitment to supporting vulnerable children in the state. “I decided to marry off these girls considering their economic situation, and I promise to continue with the gesture by the grace of Allah,” he said.
Senator Kawu Sumaila, representing Kano South Senatorial Zone, praised Zubairu’s efforts and donated N10,000 to each of the 105 couples. He urged other affluent individuals to follow Zubairu’s example and assist those in need.
