The Dangote Refinery has commenced the export of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to countries including Cameroon, Angola, Ghana, and South Africa, further solidifying its position in the global petroleum industry.
This was disclosed by Devakumar Edwin, Vice President of Oil and Gas at Dangote Industries Limited, during a visit from the Japanese Business Community in Nigeria, led by Japan’s Ambassador-designate, Suzuki Hideo. Edwin emphasized that the refinery’s products, including diesel and jet fuel, meet international standards and are being heavily exported globally, with jet fuel gaining significant traction in European markets.
Edwin described the refinery as a visionary project by Aliko Dangote, designed and constructed by Nigerians to serve both local and international markets. Recognized as the world’s largest single-train refinery complex, the facility integrates cutting-edge global technologies, ensuring exceptional standards of operation.
The refinery, alongside the Dangote Petrochemical project, is expected to boost investment in downstream industries, create jobs, reduce foreign exchange outflows, and significantly enhance Nigeria’s GDP. Additionally, its polypropylene section expansion will reduce Nigeria’s reliance on imports for this critical industrial material.
The Japanese delegation, which toured the refinery and petrochemical facilities, lauded the technological advancements showcased by the complex. Managing Director of the Japan External Trade Organisation, Takashi Oku, described the refinery as a testament to Nigeria’s technological and economic progress, calling it a “gateway to Africa” for global investors.
Masahiro Tsuno, Managing Director of Itochu Nigeria Limited, marveled at the refinery’s scale and automation, labeling it a “miracle” and one of the wonders of the world. Both officials expressed keen interest in future collaborations with Dangote Refinery across various sectors, including polypropylene and advanced petroleum products.
Edwin reiterated Dangote Group’s commitment to leveraging Africa’s crude oil resources to create refined products locally, fostering industrial development, economic prosperity, and environmental sustainability.
The Dangote Refinery’s operational success and its global export capabilities position Nigeria as a leader in Africa’s energy sector, while attracting international partnerships and investments.
