The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, *CP Nnaghe Obono Itam*, has vowed to apprehend the criminals responsible for the murder of four vigilante operatives and the injury of two others during an unprovoked attack in the state.
According to the Police, the incident occurred yesterday, 18th November 2024, at 8:45 am. Armed assailants in an unregistered Lexus 330 SUV and a Honda FJ Cruiser SUV ambushed vigilantes at Ekeagu Abatete, killing three and wounding a member of the public. While fleeing, the gunmen encountered a police response team at Ukpo Junction in Dunukofia Local Government Area. During the ensuing chase, they shot and killed another vigilante member, injured another, and set two vehicles on fire.
The bodies of the deceased have been recovered, while the injured are receiving treatment in the hospital.
CP Itam expressed his condolences to the families and communities affected by the attack, assuring the public that the Command will deploy all available resources to ensure the perpetrators are apprehended and brought to justice.
Updates on the investigation will be communicated, according to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga.
