Governor Chukwuma Soludo has officially named Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim as his running mate for the upcoming November 2025 gubernatorial election in Anambra State.
The announcement was made during the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) convention held at Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, shortly after Soludo was confirmed as the party’s sole candidate through a “yes or no” ballot and a voice vote by delegates.
Addressing party members, Soludo stated that his decision to retain Dr. Ibezim as deputy was guided by the principle of continuity and performance. Recalling a lecture he once delivered titled “If it is not broken, why mend it,” the governor said the choice reflects the strength of their partnership, while also acknowledging that several capable individuals had expressed interest in the role.
Soludo called on party members and stakeholders to unite in the pursuit of a shared vision for Anambra — one he described as a liveable and prosperous smart mega city.
Out of the 3,260 delegates accredited for the APGA convention, 3,175 cast their votes. A total of 3,168 votes were deemed valid, with only four invalid votes recorded.
The exercise was witnessed by officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), who monitored the process to ensure transparency and compliance.
