Team Delta has emerged as the champion of the 8th National Youth Games, securing the title for the second consecutive year. The team claimed 46 gold, 31 silver, and 34 bronze medals, totaling 111 medals, at the closing ceremony held at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, on Thursday.
Close behind were Team Lagos, finishing second with 26 gold, 20 silver, and 19 bronze medals. Team Edo came third with 18 gold, 13 silver, and 28 bronze medals.
Delta had previously hosted the 7th edition of the Games, topping the medal table with 51 gold, 34 silver, and 11 bronze medals. The state has now maintained its winning streak, claiming victory in all editions of the National Youth Games since 2016.
This year, 35 states, including the Federal Capital Territory, won medals, with only Ebonyi State missing out. Rivers State was notably absent from the competition, marking the only state not to participate.
